Hot Championship favourites St Dogmaels stumbled against Dewi Stars over the weekend and in the process opened up the title race for the hunting pack.
The Saints in fact were rather lucky to have left Llanddewi Brefi with even a point as the Stars turned in a performance that belied their lowly position in the League. It was the visitors in fact who took the lead after only three minutes when Ioan Owen headed home a Steve Blackford cross only for the homesters to draw level within two minutes from a Dewi Sion Evans penalty after Graham Rees had been brought down in the box. With four games in hand Aberaeron closed the gap to ten points as they notched up a good win at Crannog. For the visitors Gareth Evans netted twice and there was one each for Iestyn Thomas, Steffan Gruffudd and Ellis Denyer. New Quay however, remain in second place but they will rue a missed opportunity as they lost at home against Cardigan by a single goal. Played mostly in midfield with few clear cut chances it seemed that the game was destined for a draw until Seamus Doherty netted a late penalty to give the visitors maximum points. Having put ten past Llanybydder the previous week Lampeter were again amongst the goals scoring nine against luckless Aberporth. Four goals from Mark Wilkins led the way, there was a hat-trick for Sam Gudgeon and one each for Terry Witts and Sam Gudgeon. In the other game played Ffostrasol registered an important away win at Llanybydder who have recently fallen on hard times while Llandysul failed to raise a team against Maesglas. |
